THIS IS ME. WHAT ABOUT YOU?
Deltans are among the most talented people in this country. I am and will always be proud to write, and to say I am a Deltan. I weep in my spirit when I read what people say about their places of origin in Social media. A young man wanted to join a page I opened for my home town, Ubulu Okiti. The name was not familiar so I went to his profile page. He wrote that he is from Benin and lives in Benin. I asked myself, what is your concern with Ubulu Okiti. Why do you want to join Ubulu Okiti page? I later discovered that he is a full blood of Ubulu Okiti.
Yesterday, I read about Helen Mukoro, a Nigerian born Spanish Lawyer who wants to contest Presidential election in Spain. Her credentials are intimidating. I was filled with pride reading that she is a Deltan. Think of sports? You will remember Delta State. Think of Economics? You will remember Delta State. Think of Administration? Delta comes to mind. Deltans are brains in these three areas in Nigeria. Why then should I claim that I am from Otuoke, Daura or Otta? Just because they have produced Presidents of this country?
I am proud to be born in Ubulu Okiti. If my home town is not known by the world, it is my duty to promote my town by my singular act. Goodluck Jonathan made us to know that there is a place called Otuoke. I am looking forward to a time when my name will be ringing bell in places. Then people will begin to ask, where is he from? The response will be, Ubulu Okiti in Delta State. The the questionnaire will add, NO WONDER. This is my dream. I don't know about you but I am proud to be born with the blood of UBULU OKITI, ANIOMA and DELTAN.
